Christmas Day. In the morning we ate breakfast and opened
presents. Zach had an impressive stack of gifts and he seemed to enjoy tearing off the wrapping paper as much as the gifts themselves. This enjoyment extended to any gift within his reach and many of us got help unwrapping.
After opening gifts, Paul, Joan, Laura and I geared up for a 1/4 day of skiing at Steamboat Springs. I say a 1/4 day because after 2:15 the lift tickets are 1/3 the price and there are aobut 2 hours of good daylight left. And furthermore, since we're not in very good shape about 2 hours of mountain skiing is all it takes to wipe us out. The ski resort was not very crowded and the skiing was good.
Despite not having skied in something like 4 years I took right to the hill and showed it who was the boss. Laura, on the other hand, had a couple adventures sliding down the hill on her butt and even plowed some snow with her face. Like a trooper she got back and up kept going.
(Laura's note - my two falls were thanks to boots that were too small, and skis that were too long - too difficult to control with my dwindling skill...What Chris failed to mention above was his face plant on the bunny hill...funny he forgot that!)
When we got back to the cabin there was a veritable feast awaiting us. Scott, Kjirsten and Zach had prepared steaks, scallops, crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, stuffing, & more. After working up an appetite skiing it was a nice surprise.
After dinner we watched one of Paul's Christmas gifts - Escanaba in da Moonlight - a comedy about deer hunting in northern Michigan that was written & directed by Jeff Daniels - Hilarious.
