Well, we finally made it to Denver!
As you all may be aware, Denver was hit by a huge snow-storm (the 4th or 7th worst in Denver's history, depending on which source you believe). The airport was closed for 2 days, and it only opened up at noon on the day we were supposed to fly out. Our flight was scheduled for Friday evening, 7:05 PM. We checked the internet and called Sun Country the day before and of our departure, and we were told that Sun Country just wouldn't know anything until the Denver airport opened.
First thing we heard was that our flight was on as scheduled. The next time we checked, it was pushed back to 10 pm. Then, it was moved up to 9:15. Holding steady at 9:15, we finally made our way to the airport, arriving at 8. 9:15 came and went, and absolutely no word about our flight... At about 9:30, they finally told us that our plane was scheduled to arrive from Denver at 9:45, and as soon as they were able to deplane the existing passengers and clean the plane, we'd get on and be on our way.
I think we took off at about 10 minutes to 11 PM. The flight itself was pretty uneventful, and when we arrived in Denver at midnight local time (1 AM, our time), we were greeted by a large number of people lounging and lying in every open area. Most people looked exhausted. When we got to our baggage carousel, we were greeted by about 500 people already waiting at an overloaded carousel. There was baggage piled everywhere surrounding the carousel, which made it difficult to get close to find your bag.
I think we waited about an hour for our bags, and were on our way to Lakewood (west of downtown Denver, just at the base of the foothills) at 2 AM (3 AM, on our clocks). THANK YOU, Dad and Scott, for braving the crowds and traffic and the hour to come pick us up!!
after an our in the car, we got to Kjirsten, Scott, and Zach's. I think we were ready for bed in record time, and lights went out at about 3:15 (4:15 AM). Ugh.
Today was a little less surprising. Chris and I were able to sleep in a little, and we were on the road by 1:30 for our drive up to Steamboat Springs.
The drive was beautiful - through the mountains, snow, trees!
We arrived at our little house at 4:30, and it's a pretty nice place! We have the fire going, and we've done a little Christmas decorating.
The plan tonight is to have spaghetti, and maybe go to bed early! I think we're all pretty tired!
Stay tuned for the next update!
